ABOUT
UMass/Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency continues its tradition of providing
superior Family
Medicine residency training in the North Worcester County area, as it has for
24 years. Our
residency and our graduates form the core of Family Medicine in this part of the
region.
As a part of UMass Medical School's nationally recognized Department of Family
Medicine and
Community Health, Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency Program provides cutting-edge
experiences in a variety of settings that best meet the learning requirements
of our residents.
The majority of the training is in a local community hospital, where the residency
is unopposed
by other residencies. The balance of the training is in the medical centers of
UMass, where our
residents are exposed to the diversity and acuity seen in large tertiary care
medical centers. We
now serve as the sole provider of medical service to a new community health center
- another
way in which FFMR serves North Worcester County.
Many of our graduates have remained in the North Worcester County area, providing
full service
Family Medicine, usually including obstetrics and intensive care services. We
have other
graduates who have established practices throughout the country and around the
world. The
practices of our graduates include HMO's, large group practices, community health
centers,
small group practices, solo practices, and leadership positions within academic
departments. We
pride ourselves in preparing our graduates for whatever their career choices may
be.
We continue to expand our residency by developing such programs as a strong Behavioral
Science Program that is fully integrated into the residency and clinical practice
and a new,
exciting focus on Sports Medicine.
We hope that after learning a bit about the residency you will want to come and
visit us. We are
well known for providing a residency learning environment which is supportive
and friendly, and
which has the flexibility to respond to residents' individual educational and
personal needs.
We look forward to meeting you!
