Director of Behavioral Science for the Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency Program
Dr. Apostoleris teaches research methodology and behavioral science, consults
with medical
providers, provides direct patient care, and supervises the program's post-doctoral
fellow in
Primary Care Psychology. Areas of clinical interest include substance abuse
and dual diagnosis
issues, severe psychopathology, and child assessment. Areas of research interest
include
intrinsic motivation, home education, and psychological factors related to health
outcomes.

Chang, MD

Dr. Chang completed his training at the Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency
Program in 2006.
He remains on faculty at the Residency. He practiced general surgery at Luis
Vernaza Hospital,
Junta de Beneficiencia De Guayaquil, Ecuador. He also practiced surgial oncology
at A.C.
Camargo Hospital, Fundacao Antonio Prudente. Escola de Cancerologia Celestino

Dr. Ledwith has been a long time collaborator in the Ambulatory Sentinel Practice
Network
(ASPN) and the AAFP National Research Network. He served on the ASPN Laboratory
Medicine Task Force, which conducted the first systematic study of primary care
laboratory
errors under a CDC research grant. He served on the Advisory Panel of the AAFP
Patient
Safety Center 2001-2004. Research interests include patient safety, practice
systems
improvement, and weight management and behavioral strategies for disease management.

Dr. Mazyck was previously a faculty member of the Family MedicineResidency Program
at
Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. She was a Staff Family
Physician in the military for several years serving in Korea, Germany and at
Fort Drum, New
York. Her special interests are clinical ethics, women's health issues, obstetrics,
and office
procedures. Dr. Mazyck is the director of undergraduate activities in the residency,
supervising the 3rd and 4th year medical student clerkships. She is a member
of the Ethics
Committee at HealthAlliance Leominster/Burbank Hospitals, and the Admissions
Committee,
UMass Medical School.

Dr. McConarty has combined patient care and residency teaching in San Francisco,
Worcester,
and Fitchburg since 1976. His special interests include behavioral science,
care for underserved
populations and community-oriented primary care.Dr. McConarty coordinates the
Fitchburg
Family Medicine Residency Family Medicine workshop curriculums and is a member
of the
Admissions Committee, UMass Medical School.

Michele
P. Pugnaire, M.D.
Associate Professor of Family Medicine and Community Health
Vice Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, University of Massachusetts Medical
School
Dr. Pugnaire is responsible for providing leadership for curriculum development,
implementation,
and evaluation in undergraduate medical education. She has served as Associate
Dean for
Admissions and Assistant Dean for Student Advising. During the past 15 years,
she has
served in a variety of administrative and teaching positions in the department
of family medicine,
and is currently Project Director for the Macy Initiative in Health Communication
grant at UMass
Medical School as well as Principal Investigator for the Pfizer Sexual Health
in Undergraduate
Medical School Curricula and AAMC/John A. Hartford Foundation Enhancing Gerontology
and
Geriatrics Medicine Education in Undergraduate Medical Education grants. Her
education
interests and achievements include faculty development in student advising,
technology in
teaching, the McQ Standardized Family curriculum, and the expansion of the standardized
family
across three clerkships as the principal investigator for a UME 21 Associate
Partnership grant.
Dr. Pugnaire is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and maintains a community-based
clinical practice in family medicine with the UMass Fitchburg Family Medicine
Residency Program.

Stevenson, M.D.

Dr. Stevenson completed his residency at the University of Massachusetts Worcester
Family Medicine Residency in 2001 and has completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship
at the
University of Connecticut. He joined the Fitchburg Family Medicine Residency
in August 2002.
Dr. Stevenson coordinates the residency's Sports Medicine curriculum. Dr. Stevenson's
clinical
areas of interest include: sports medicine, evidence based medicine, and implementation
of
technology in medical training and at the point of care.
